Heat wrap acts a little like a heat shield, it is wrapped around manifolds and headers to reduce the heat under the hood.
To maximise its insulation capacity the aim is to wrap as tightly as possible.
Wetting the wrap can reduce fibre ‘fly’ and make the installation easier. Furthermore, on drying the wrap will set in a tighter, snugger fit.
Apply the wrap by wrapping round the headers or exhaust manually and at an angle to overlap by 30%-50% of the width (especially on the bends) to ensure 100% coverage.
If the primary tubes become too close together, begin to wrap around both maintaining the 30% – 50% overlap.
Finish off with stainless steel ties or jubilee clips.
